For transparency purposes, all ZC field representatives who receive cash donations for their respective ZC mission programs are required to acknowledge receipt in the open forum, not to the individual donor in a private email, of all cash donations they receive, and post a detailed report of their disbursements.
In the case of the ZC Village Store, a monthly report of the store's income and expenses must be reported to the Group without fail, in addition to acknowledging receipt of all cash donations in a timely manner and providing a detailed report of all expenses incurred from the cash donations it receives.
There are no exceptions to this official ZC policy.

*Rosemary decided to pre-open the ZC Village Store on Saturday, August 8, 2009, with the grand opening re-scheduled for October 8, 2009 because of her strong belief in the number "8" as a lucky number (Message no. 2254, July 29, 2009).
*Full implementation of the ZC Village Store has been re-scheduled for October 8, 2009 upon Rosemary's suggestion. The store will receive full financial backing from Zambales Century. Monthly rent for the store is P1200. Three months' advance rent in the amount of P3600 ($75) was paid to owner of stall, Desnie Yap of Iba, by Rosemary Bada San Juan on July 22, 2009. On Saturday, July 25th, 2009, Rosemary will begin cleaning the stall located at the Cabangan Public Market. Rosemary is offered the option of rent-to-own the stall for P35,000 ($730) by stall owner, Desnie Yap (Message no. 2067, July 21, 2009).
A possible 6th ZC mission program to establish a Zambales Century Village Store in Cabangan that would be selling pig feeds initially at discounted prices to benefit piglet recipients under the ZC piglet recycling donation program and other pig farmers was explored. Research about forming a cooperative store iwas conducted by Dadz Egana of Masinloc, but who currently works in Guam (Message no. 1480, June 30, 2009).
Following Dadz Egana's completion of his research on the subject at the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) website outlining the initial requirements for establishing a cooperative store, such as having bylaws, board of directors, regular meetings, and registering for a Tax Identification number with the BIR, John Reyes expressed reservations about the appropriateness for, and qualifications of, ZC as a web-based group to form a cooperative for the purpose of establishing a coop store, citing the very nature of a web-based group and the inherent uncertainties of maintaining coop membership cohesion, cooperation, and support, which are vital to a coop's success, as the major hindrance for forming a cooperative (Message no. 1544, July 3, 2009).
The Zambales Century Village Store will go forward as planned, not as a cooperative store, but as an independent store to be registered under the name of Rosemary San Juan of Cabangan with full financial backing of the Zambales Century.
Message no. 1658, dated July 7, 2009, reflects the moderator's early thinking about the proposed ZC store to be established in Cabangan on or about October 1, 2009, to be owned, managed, and operated by Rosemary Bada San Juan, with full financial backing of the Zambales Century. Ana Marie Daep of Quezon City/Cabangan agreed to help with bookkeeping and for general advice.
*To get the ZC store started immediately, John Reyes made the first donation to this program on July 14, 2009, by sending $340 to Rosemary San Juan via the Western Union. The money sent was intended to pay for the business permit, the first month' rent, and the initial inventory. It also included a month's pay amounting to $40 for Mr. San Juan for tending the store upon Rosemary's return to her regular government job after spending a month of her vacation time at the store in order to determine what the customers needed (Message no. 1851, July 14, 2009).
John Reyes made a second donation to the ZC Village Store by sending $200 to Rosemary San Juan on July 22, 2009, to cover the stall rental in advance for the next 3 months in the amount of P3,600 ($75) and additional funds to stock the store's initial inventory. To date, a grand total of $540 had been sent to Rosemary for the store (Message no. 2079, July 22, 2009).
Due to the unexpected pre-opening of the store that Rosemary had scheduled for August 8, 2009, John Reyes sent $500 to Rosemary via the Western on August 1st to strengthen the store's inventory. Rosemary was instructed to reimburse Ana Marie Daep for her trip expenses to and from Cabangan and other expenses out of her own pocket related to the store, such as the tarpaulin signage for the store and for the artist working with Ana Marie on the design of the signage (Message no. 2381, August 1, 2009). This donation was officially acknowledged by Rosemary San Juan on August 19, 2009 (Message no. 2672).
Rosemary finished all the needed requirements for the ZC Village Store and she has in her possession Business Permit No. 519 as of 2009 (Message no. 2200, July 28, 2009). Further, any item that ZC members wish to sell at the store (Message no. 2201, July 28, 2009) may be shipped to:

PROGRAM COORDINATORS AND THEIR CONTACT NUMBERS
Piglet Recycling Donation Program – Jobo (Tay Jobo) Eliizes
San Narciso
Mr. Jobo Elizes, or Tay Jobo for short, contact no. (718) 837-7559 and cell no. (646) 267-7780, is a leading proponent of the piglet recycling concept in the Philippines designed to help stimulate the economy. In March 2009, a month before ZC was born, Tay Jobo established the first piglet recycling program in the town of San Narciso, province of Zambales, by donating 3 piglets and designating Salvador (Buddy) Cabacungan, contact no. 0921-269-0803, to be his first Lead Volunteer in Zambales.
Upon joining ZC, Tay Jobo introduced the concept to the group with the intention of implementing the piglets recycling program throughout the province of Zambales. As an active ZC member, Tay Jobo is the facilitator for the autonomous but integral part of the ZC mission called ZC Piglet Recycling Donation Program. In collaboration with ZC, his piglets campaign has now established footholds in San Narciso, San Felipe, San Antonio, Cabangan, Botolan, and Iba, and is working on gaining donors, volunteers and recipients for San Marcelino and Palauig.
Piglets Recipients, San Narciso
Buddy's 3 piglets recipients in San Narciso, pre-ZC, March 2009, are as follows: Vivian B. Tadena, single mother and ex-OFW, who spent 10 years in Kuwait, has a daughter by the name of Christine who works in Kuwait. Vivian has a backyard pigpen and experience in piggery; Buddy's wife, Evelyn Cabacungan, who has an Associate degree in Agriculture, presently working for Department of Agriculture LGU; and, Dominador Arconado, Jr., a farmer and a member of the Barangay Council of Barangay Alusiis, San Narciso. The 3 piglets donated to the above-mentioned 3 recipients came from Tay Jobo in March 2009, before ZC was born (Message no. 1162, dated June 19, 2009).
Buddy's 4th recipient in San Narciso is Miriam Ayonke, the wife of Barangay Captain Lauro Ayonke. See entry for Barangay Candelaria, below.
Other San Narciso recipients reported by Buddy in Message no. 1330, dated June 25, 2009, are Norvelyn Sebastian Fabrigas, the 5th recipient, married to a rice farmer who employs the latest rice-farming technology, has 3 grown children, all of whom are professionals. Norvelyn currently works as the Deputy Clerk of Court, Municipal Trial Court in San Narciso. Her contact no. is 09192301683.
However, on July 7, 2009, Buddy reported that 5th recipient, Norvelyn Fabrigas (see above), has withdrawn from the piglets program due to hardship incurred by travel expenses for her children who went abroad. Buddy stated that he has a ready replacement in the person of Imelda Almazan Tiburcio (Message no. 1647), a retired personnel of PNP in San Narciso (Message no. 1781, July 12, 2009).
Imelda Almazan Tiburcio, the 5th recipient, of Mabangcal, Beddeng, San Narciso, a widow and a retired government employee who has 3 grown children, one of whom is in Canada.

Bernabe Adrias, the 12th recipient, from Barangay Natividad.
Emelita Fablatin, the 13th recipient.
Jerry Falucho, the 14th recipient.
Alfredo de la Cruz, the 15th recipient.
The 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th recipients as above were reported by Buddy through ZC (Message no. 1781, July 12, 2009). The 8th recipient was reported not through ZC but through the pignet forum.
The 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th recipients as above were reported by Buddy through ZC (Message no. 3117, September 14, 2009).
In Buddy's report to Tay Jobo through the pignet forum (TJ's ZC Message no. 2148, July 25, 2009), Janette Naning was made the 10th recipient in place of Napoleon Ramos, who was previously reported as the 10th recipient. Napoleon Ramos is now the 11th recipient, as per ZC Message no. 2148, as above.
On June 30, 2009 (Message no. 1485), Tay Jobo announced that he will be depositing Php 12,000 to Buddy Cabacungan's ATM bank account for six (6) piglet dispersals designated for the following recipients: 4 piglets to Buddgy's 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th San Narciso recipients as described above; and, 1 piglet each to San Felipe coordinator, Angie Alcantara's 3rd recipient and San Antonio coordinator, Winnie Miranda's 3rd recipient. The Php 12,000 deposit to Buddy's account includes Resty Mose's earlier donation of $150. On July 3, 2009, Tay Jobo confirmed the remittance of the funds into Buddy's account for the 6 piglets dispersals (Message no. 1554).
In a message dated May 3, 2009, Evelyn Jones, contact no. 415-269-0437, indicated to Tay Jobo a desire to participate in the piglet recycling program for Zambales with an initial donation of 2 piglets. In a later development and with Buddy Cabacungan's recommendation, it was learned that Evelyn may, afterall, send her proposed donation to her sister-in-law, Mrs. Sylvia Espiritu, a retired school principal and a member of the United Methodist Church in San Narciso (Message no. 126).
Buddy Cabacungan sounded off that if he could gather enough recipients, he will conduct a piglets seminar in coordination with the Dept. of Agriculture. In this regard Ceres Busa mailed Jobo Elizes a $25.00 check to help in the merienda (Message no. 2430, August 4, 2009).
In a text communication with Buddy, TJ announced that he deposited Php2,000 into Buddy's account for the piglets seminar expenses to round off the $30 which he (TJ) received from Ceres Busa (Message no. 2655, August 18, 2009)
Barangay Alusiis
Evelyn F. Jones reported having sent a donation to the piglets program in the amount of $50 to Mrs. Sylvia Espiritu of San Narciso to purchase 1 piglet for recipient La Paz Pulido Fango of Barangay Alusiis, San Narciso. Tay Jobo had recommended that Mrs. Espiritu coordinate the piglet recycling concept with the recipient independent of the program coordinated by Salvador Cabacungan for the other barangays of San Narciso.
Barangay Candelaria
On May 20, 2009, Buddy Cabacungan reported having recruited the wife of Barangay Candelaria, San Narciso, captain to lead to lead the piglets program there as the volunteer/recipient. On June 14, 2009, Buddy reported having received from Cabangan piglets coordinator, Rosemary B. San Juan, the sum of PHP2,000 as part of of the $250 donation received from John Reyes on June 8 for the purchase of 5 piglets. The money Buddy received from Rosemary would be used to purchase 1 piglet to be given to volunteer/recipient, Miriam Ayonke, the wife of Barangay Candelaria captain, Lauro Ayonke (Message no. 1002).
San Felipe
On May 9, 2009, ZC moderator John Reyes, contact no. 703-258-9585, remitted $150 in behalf of Zambales Century to San Narciso Lead Volunteer, Buddy Cabacungan, for the purchase of 3 piglets intended for San Felipe and San Antonio. Two of the piglets ($100) were given to San Felipe volunteer, Angie Alcantara, contact no. 0907-992-9981, while 1 piglet ($50) was given to San Antonio volunteer, Winnie Miranda, contact no.0921-850-9658.
On June 15, 2009, Dhyna Alcantara, the daughter of Angie Alcantara, recipient/coordinator for San Felipe, submitted the names of the two piglets recipients in San Felipe, as follows: Friscian Arguelles Rillon of Barangay San Rafael, 23, a graduate of Centro Escolar University with a degree in management, married and works for HHIC - Philippines located in Subic; and, Virgilio Simon Marquez of Maloma, San Felipe, 46 and single (Message no. 1027).
San Antonio
In Message no. 211, dated May 9, 2009, Tay Jobo pledged to commit peso funds good for one piglet for the San Antonio program, and in another message (no. 281) dated May 13, Tay Jobo notified Buddy Cabacungan to expect a remittance for the purchase of 1 piglet for Aeta mason and caretaker, Lito Daylo to start the Botolan program.
In a YM chat with Tay Jobo on May 15, San Antonio volunteer, Winnie Miranda, reported the names of her 2 piglets recipients in San Antonio as follows: Remedios Bernardino, 60, a widow and pensioner with 2 children and Maria Rosario, 33, a farmer(?) with 2 children.
Cabangan
To encourage the Cabangan volunteer, John Reyes pledged 5 additional piglets ($250) to be donated in the month of June, depending on the outcome of the magazine subscriptions for 14 Zambales high schools scheduled to begin also in June, with 3 of the piglets going to Cabangan in care of volunteer Rosemary San Juan, contact no. 0908-214-8125, and 1 each going to San Felipe and San Antonio. In the interim, Tay Jobo informed Rosemary San Juan in his message dated May 14 that he will ask his daughter in the Philippines to make a deposit into Rosemary's bank account for 1 piglet donation in order to get the Cabangan project started, while waiting for John Reyes' donation.
On May 19, Tay Jobo further informed Cabangan volunteer, Rosemary San Juan that of the 3 piglets expected from John Reyes in the month of June, 1 piglet would be re-directed to Iba. The decision to re-direct 1 piglet to Iba was based on information received from Buddy Cabacungan that he found a volunteer, Myra Ramos Abad, for that capital town.
In Message no. 695, dated June 6, 2009, Cabangan Piglet Coordinator, Rosemary B. San Juan reported her recipients as follows:
1. Mrs. Corazon Abadilla of Barangay San Juan, a cousin with 20 years of experience in backyard piggery;
2. Mr. Henry Glotiano of Barangay Banuambayo, a churchmate who also has a backyard piggery;
3. Mrs. Myra Feria, 33, of Barangay San Juan, homemaker, married to a self-employed carpenter and art designer, has 3 kids in elementary school; and,
4. Carmen Feria, 54, of Barangay San Juan, separated, self-employed dressmaker and beautician, 2 children with their own family, has long experience in piggery.
On June 8, 2009, John Reyes donated $250 to the piglets program through Rosemary B. San Juan as promised via the Western Union to purchase 5 piglets at $50 each to be allocated as follows: 4 piglets for Rosemary's 4 recipients in Cabangan and 1 piglet for Barangay Candelaria, San Narciso, in care of Buddy Cabacungan, or however Tay Jobo wants to allocate them (Message no. 773, June 8, 2009).
Barangay San Isidro
Ana Marie Daep, of Barangay Santa Rita, Cabangan, recommended 2 piglets recipients for Barangay San Isidro for consideration by Cabangan coordinator, Rosemary B. San Juan and Tay Jobo. Ana Marie has pledged PHP1,000 as partial donation towards the purchase of 1 piglet for one of the recipients, Ramir Santos, an uncle. The proposed recipients are both brothers of Ana Marie's mother (Message no. 1270, dated June 23, 2009). They are:
Ramir Santos of Barangay San Isidro. Married with 5 kinds, four of whom are high school graduates but are unemployed. The youngest is in the 6th grade. Ramir drives a jeepney route between San Felipe and Iba. Has a backyard pig pen and has experience in piggery. Ramir has access to discarded food from a karinderya in Iba, which would augment the feeds for the pig.
Conrado Santos of Barangay San Isidro. Married with 5 children, all of whom are married and have their own families. Conrado is an active member of the senior citizens of Cabangan. Has experience taking care of pigs. His children will help him with expenses for feeds for the pig.
Sta. Cruz
As a result of a YM chat between Tay Jobo and Jigs Mapa on June 14, Jigs agreed to be the Lead Volunteer for the piglets recycling program for his hometown of Santa Cruz, according to Tay Jobo. Tay Jobo instructed Jigs to prepare a list of possible recipients, their biodata and pictures, if possible (Message no. 1018, dated June 14, 2009).
However, in a posted message received directly from Jigs Mapa, Jigs expressed some reservations about being the recipient/coordinator for Sta. Cruz, as he is not ready for it at the present time. Jigs provided a correction to his contact number as follows: Globe mobile no. 09154969733 (Message no. 1031, dated June 15, 2009).
Iba
Through Tay Jobo's message to ZC (Message no. 1162, June 19, 2009), Salvador Cabacungan reported that Myra Abad had accepted Buddy's invitation for her to join ZC and be the volunteer coordinator for the piglets recycling program for Iba. Myra's cell phone number is: 09294789410.
Summary of Piglets Distribution in Zambales as of 9/21/09
As reported by Tay Jobo, Message no. 3358, September 21, 2009.
As of May 24, 2009, four new websites related to Tay Jobo's pignet forum were created by him to memorialize the launching of the ZC Piglet Recycling Donation Program in San Narciso, San Felipe, San Antonio, and Cabangan. All websites are linked to the ZC discussion forum. The six piglets websites are:
http://www.piglets-unlimited.webs.com/

As the piglet campaign expands north of Iba, Elyn Jean Felarca, recommended her sister, Fe Recella and her agriculturist husband, contact no. 0927-731-1734, to lead the campaign in the town of Palauig.
In a shift of strategic thinking, Tay Jobo, as of June 1, 2009 (Message no. 598), decided tentatively to re-allocate the 5 piglets expected from John Reyes back to the original allocation as planned; that is, 1 piglet each to San Felipe and San Antonio, and 2 going to Cabangan, with the fifth piglet now going to Barangay Candelaria, San Narciso, instead of to Cabangan, since Rosemary San Juan had already received the first start-up piglet donation (PHP 2,000) from Tay Jobo via Buddy Cabacungan (Message no. 364, dated May 19, 2009).
On June 12, Resty Mose sent an email to John Reyes through ZC to inform that he had sent $150 to John Reyes through the Western Union intended for the ZC Piglets Recyling Donation Program facilitated by Tay Jobo. Resty Mose gave Tay Jobo the discretion to apply the donation to the Zambales community of Tay Jobo's choice (Message no. 949).
Donation in Kind
In an agreement between Tay Jobo and John Reyes, John Reyes agreed to buy Tay Jobo's 2006 HP laptop for $300 to be donated to the computer program for Magsaysay Elementary School. The money would be deducted from the $500 computer pledge made by John Reyes, and it will go to Tay Jobo. Tay Jobo will use the money to purchase 6 piglets as his donation to the piglets program (Message no. 1038, June 15, 2009).
John Reyes sent a personal check for $300 in payment of Tay Jobo's HP laptop that was donated to Magsaysay Elementary School by Khalil Calilnawan as Part I of the computer donation program to MES on July 3, 2009, in behalf of Zambales Century (Message no. 2078, July 22, 2009).
Piglets Seminar, San Narciso, September 4, 2009
A piglets seminar organized by Buddy Cabacungan was held on Friday September 4, 2009, during a storm, at the Barangay Alusiis Social Hall, from 8:30AM - 5:00PM. Some of the guest speakers and participants include government officials, DAR employees, piglets recipients, housewives, and ZC field representative, Josie Cadorna, who represented the Zambales Century. Josie Cadorna gave a speech about the history of Zambales Century, its mission and its mission programs. There were a total of 36 attendees at the seminar. (Message nos. 2803, 2930 and 3016, dated August 26, September 2, and September 7, 2009, respectively).
In a text communication with Buddy, TJ announced that he deposited Php2,000 into Buddy's account for the piglets seminar expenses to round off the $30 which he (TJ) received from Ceres Busa (Message no. 2655, August 18, 2009).
Magazine Subscription Donation Program - Ana Peralta
The beginnings of the idea for the ZC magazine subscription program may be traced to an email exchange between Evelyn Jones and John Reyes (Message no. 54, April 29, 2009). In fact, the seeds of all three of the current ZC mission programs aside from the piglet program – magazine subscription, book donation, and Aeta scholastic sponsorhip - may have germinated from that exchange.
In Message no. 54, John Reyes broached the idea of purchasing magazine subscriptions “for all the high schools in each Zambales town as a gift from the Zambales Century”, and suggested that a letter of introduction be drafted and sent to each beneficiary high school principal “before we begin the process.”
On the following day, April 30, the moderator asked Attorney Ana Peralta , Councilor for the town of San Marcelino, if she could draft the letter of introduction for ZC addressed to the school principals, (Message no. 62), further intimating that she may be asked later to develop a criteria for selecting the beneficiary schools which are to be winnowed down from a list of 137 public and private schools found in Zambales.
In a May 2 message received from Ana, she agreed to draft the letter of introduction for ZC (Message no. 86). It was clear from that point forward that Ana Peralta would be the logical person to administer the ZC magazine subscription donation program. Ana would confirm this thinking on the following day.
In response to ZC Official Communication No. 1 issued on May 3 (Message no. 114), Ana gladly accepted the assignment (Message no. 119). In accepting, Ana volunteered to develop the selection criteria “in choosing the 14 High Schools that will qualify for this program.”
Ana posted the criteria she developed for ZC inspection on May 8 (Message no. 184), as follows:
a) the school must be among the top 14 public schools in the province in terms of population;
b) the school must be situated in a remote barangay.
In the same message, Ana attached a copy of the information sheet and survey form which she obtained from a previous visit with Mr. Baladjian, the Director of the Asia Foundation's Book for Asia Program for ZC's perusal.
In a May 12 communication addressed to Ana, the moderator asked Ana to do the selecting herself, since it was apparent that no input from the members was forthcoming regarding the selection process, and further suggested that a copy of the Asia Foundation solicitation form be enclosed in each letter of introduction to be sent to the schools (Message no. 265).
By a consensus of three members, it was decided that ZC would purchase 14 subscriptions of the Asian edition of the Reader's Digest for the high schools selected by Ana and one subscription going to Ana personally with the ZC family's compliments in recognition of her services. The total cost for the 15 subscriptions was estimated at $510, as shown in the following link sent to Ana:
https://www.readersdigest.com.ph/rd/rdhtml/en/payment/mag_subscription.jsp
By factoring in Ana's personal expenses for photocopying the Asia Foundation solicitation forms and postage costs for the letters of introduction sent to the schools, the amount of $535 was considered a fair and appropriate amount.
On May 13, Ana sent the draft of the letter of introduction to the moderator for review, who, in turn, shared it with the group for comments and suggestions (Message no. 288). None were received. Mention must be made about the comprehensiveness of the letter of introduction which included addressing a major concern which the moderator raised involving pilferage and mis-delivery by having the recipients pick up their copy of the magazine from a central point at the Department of Education division office in Iba. In addition, Ana offered to personally facilitate any Asia Foundation book requests from the high schools and any book donations emanating therefrom.
With 9 beneficiary high schools returning their confirmation of the gift offer as of May 24, 2009, the ZC magazine subscription donation program appeared ready with June 1st as the target date for implementation. The following is a listing of the 9 high schools which have so far assented to the proposed magazine donation by ZC:
Botolan – Botolan Community High School
Cabangan – Cabangan National High School
Castillejos – Castillejos Resettlement High School
Palauig – Rofulo Landa High School
San Antonio – San Miguel National High School
San Felipe – Balingcaguing Paete High School
San Marcelino – San Marcelino High School Annex
San Narciso – Namatacan High School
Subic – Agusuhin High School
As of May 24, Ana was still waiting for confirmation from the other 5 recipient schools located in Iba, Candelaria, Masinloc, Sta. Cruz and Olongapo City.
On or about June 1, 2009, John Reyes was scheduled to send to Ana Peralta via the Western Union the amount of $535 as payment in full for 15 subscriptions to the Reader's Digest for this year, with an eye to renewing the subscriptions next year following a careful evaluation.
As of May 24, the following ZC members have contributed their share for the cost of the subscriptions. Tay Jobo ($50) and Evelyn Jones ($50). Refer to John Reyes' acknowledgements of receipt from Tay Jobo (Message no. 376, dated May 19) and from Evelyn Jones (Message no. 437, dated May 21, 2009).
On June 1, 2009 as promised, John Reyes transmitted $535 via the Western Union to Ana Peralta in San Marcelino for the purchase of 15 subscriptions to the Reader's Digest, with one of the subscriptions going to Ana personally, courtesy of Zambales Century in grateful recognition of her services. The $535 represents the contributions of $50 each from Tay Jobo and Evelyn Jones and $435 from John Reyes, and is made in behalf of the Zambales Century family (Message no. 597, dated June 1, 2009).
However, due to non-response from Ana Peralta, the field representative responsible for administering the ZC magazine subscription program, John Reyes suspended the program on June 4, 2009 until further notice (Message no. 663). John Reyes rescinded the Western Union money transfer on the same day and will receive a full refund in the amount of $535, less $12 for service fee. All the work that have been done by Ana and all the arrangements that have been put in place preparatory to placing the subsciptions were voided. The suspension of the program will remain in effect until ZC finds a reliable field representative in Zambales to complete the mission (Message no. 663, June 4, 2009).
The suspension of the magazine subscription program was lifted by John Reyes on June 8, 2009 (Message no. 768) upon hearing from Ana Peralta by private mail that she was ready to pick up the money from the Western Union. Ana had been very busy attending to her official duties as a Councilor for San Marcelino and as a national officer of the National Councilor's League.
John Reyes promptly re-sent the money on the same day but for a slightly larger amount to cover any unexpected incidental expenses. The amount sent to Ana through the Western Union on June 8 was $550, which included a $100 contribution from Tay Jobo and Evelyn Jones of $50 each. (Message no. 772).
By private email dated June 11, 2009, Ana Peralta informed John Reyes that she had received the Western Union money transfer in the amount of PHP 25,441.00. The dollar amount sent was $550. Ana also informed John that she would now place the subscription to the Reader's Digest.
On July 2, 2009, Ana Peralta updated ZC on the status of the Reader's Digest subscriptions which she ordered for a revised listing of 15 beneficiary schools (Message no. 1536). Ana reported having personally distributed the April/May/June 2009 issues of the RD to the schools listed below. For succeeding issues beginning with the July issue, Ana will arrange to have the subscriptions delivered to the DepEd in Iba from where the beneficiaries can pick up their copies, with the exception of Olongapo City and San Marcelino, which Ana will personally deliver. The 15 beneficiary schools are as follows:
1. Cawag National High School (Subic)
2. Castillejos National High School
3. San Marcelino High School (Main)
4. San Miguel National High School (San Antonio)
5. Namatacan High School (San Narciso)
6. Cabangan National High School
7. Botolan Community High School
8. Rofulo Landa High School (Palauig)
9. Bani National High School (Masinloc)
10. Candelaria School of Fisheries
11. Mena Memorial High School (Sta. Cruz)
12. La Paz High School Annex (San Felipe)
13. Zambales National High School (Iba)
14. New Cabalan High School (Olongapo City)
15. Sta. Fe National High School (San Marcelino

Donations to the ZC Book Donation Program
Evelyn Jones, the project coordinator for both the ZC book donation program and the ZC ALLDP (Aeta Literacy and Livelihood Donation Program) will be sending the first balikbayan box to Pastor Ladringan's Aeta Children's Home (ACH). Scheduled for pick up by LBC courier on June 4, 2009, the balikbayan box contains used children's books and new Sunday materials and "some canned goods in between the books" (Message no. 630, dated June 3, 2009).
Evelyn Jones is preparing to send another balikbayan box under the ZC book donation program containing a complete set of the 2005 edition of the World Encyclopedia she had obtained from the San Francisco Public Library as discard material. This balikbayan shipment is tentatively intended for the Zambales Academy, pending the Academy's acceptance of the gift encyclopedia set. If the ZA declines, the set would be sent to another school, preferably to the ACH Christian School or the Magsaysay Elementary School, as suggested by John Reyes (Message nos. 1264, dated June 22, 2009 and 1255, dated June 23, 2009). See also a separate entry under Balikbayan Shipments.
Early on the morning of June 25, 2009 John Reyes received a call from Ceres Busa, telling John Reyes that she is planning to send about 60 volume of books on various topics in behalf of the Zambales Century. Ceres wanted the books to be sent to the Philippines Merchant Marine Academy in San Narciso. John posted a message to ZC notifying Josie Cadorna, the local field representatives for ZC book donations, about the impending balikbayan shipment and suggested that Josie get together with Butch Echiverre, understood to have an affiliation with PMMA, about getting the books over to PMMA and to have the apporpriate PMMA official send an official acknowledgment of receipt of the books to ZC upon receipt (Message no. 1333, June 25, 2009).
John Reyes received another call from Ceres Busa on the morning of July 8, 2009, prior to Ceres' and Sonny's moving trip to West Point, telling John that she will be sending the balikbayan box containing book donations to the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy in San Narciso in behalf of Zambales Century. John Reyes gave Ceres Busa the Castillejos mailing address of Josie Cadorna, the ZC local field representative for book donations, assuring Ceres that Josie would ensure that the gift books would be delivered to the intended recipient (Message no. 1663).
Ceres Busa confirmed that she had sent the gift books intended for the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) in San Narciso through the local ZC field representative for book donations based in Castillejos, Josie Cadorna, on July 8. There were 163 books in all, dealing with subjects on biography, war, mythology, fiction, literature, mystery, travel, sports, humor, nature, love, friendship, and politics. and will take two months to arrive in Zambales (Message no. 1686, July 9, 2009).
Josie Cadorna, the field representative for the ZC book donation program acknowledged the receipt of Ceres Busa's donation of 108 books intended for the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA), Message no. 3205, September 17, 2009. Josie will now coordinate with Butch Echiverre to facilitate the delivery of the books to PMMA (Message no. 3206, September 17, 2009).
Evelyn Jones announced that a 22-volume set of the World Encyclopedia and an assortment of 40=50 books will set sail from Oakland, California, through LBC courier destined for the Zambales Academy in San Narciso in care of Sylvia Espiritu. The books are expected to arrive in San Narciso before the end of October (Message no. 3255, September 18, 2009).
4. Aeta Literacy and Livelihood Donation Program (ALLDP) – Evelyn Jones
Evelyn Jones of San Francisco, California, contact no. 415-269-0437, is the designated overall project coordinator for ALLDP. In her capacity as the coordinator, Evelyn is the conduit for all member donations and the person responsible for recording, channeling, and disbursing monies from the ZC side. Her counterpart in Zambales is Pastor Wilson Ladringan, contact no. 0920-907-8559. Pastor Ladringan's ministry runs the Aeta Children's Home (ACH) and the Aeta Christian School located in Balaybay Resettlement Site, Castillejos, Zambales 2208.
Scholastic Sponsorship
Under the terms of the ZC donation program, ZC narrowed down its focus on scholastic scholarship until it is robust enough to branch out into other areas of Aeta assistance. In a message dated May 19, 2009 (Message no. 407) and May 20 (Message no. 412), Pastor Ladringan summarized the needs of the Aeta child staying in ACH while attending the Aeta school. The cost for sponsoring an Aeta child is $40 each month ($20 for staying in the home and $20 for school expenses) for a total of $480 for the entire school year.
The ZC donation program dedicated to the Aetas was scheduled for implementation effective at the beginning of the school year in June 2009 with Evelyn Jones' initial funding of $160* to sponsor two Aeta children for the next two months beginning in June. (Message no. 445, dated May 23, 2009).
Earlier on May 21, John Reyes pledged $480 for the entire school year to augment Evelyn's initial donation for two Aeta children. John's donation will be paid in two successive monthly installments of $240 each beginning in July (Message no. 423 - “Walking the Walk”).
In a message dated May 23, 2009 (Message no. 447), Pastor Ladringan identified the two Aeta children sponsored by the Zambales Century for the school year beginning in June 2009. They are:
Rona Mae Quintero, 7 years old, who will be in the first grade in June; and,
Leo Jordan Antonio, 11 years old, who will be in the second grade in June.
Cultural Literacy for Aeta Children
Evelyn Jones introduced the idea of nurturing the musical talents of Aeta children by asking Pastor Ladringan to identify an Aeta child who might be interested in learning to play the piano or violin (Message no. 2047, July 20, 2009).
The ACH has just a child who is interested in playing the piano or violin, according to Pastor Ladringan. Her name is Jade, an 8-year old studying at the Christian school. Abandoned by her parents, she was brought to the ministry by the Department of Social Welfare and Development when she was only 6 months old. Adopted by the Ladringans, Jade is a loving and smart child and is fluent in Sambal (Message no. 2058, July 21, 2009).
Following a series of email exchanges between Pastor Ladringan and Evelyn Jones regarding Jade, Pastor Ladringan reported that Jade will be taken to the music school at Casa San Miguel in San Antonio to take her first piano lesson on Saturday, August 1, 2009. Pastor Ladringan hoped that Jade would be able to learn to play the violin as well so that she can teach other Aetas how to play these musical instruments someday. The fee for the piano lesson is Php3500 ($73) for 10 sessions (Message no. 2235, July 28, 2009).
Evelyn Jones sent Pastor Ladringan $400 via the Western Union on July 31, 2009, for the water pump drilling in the Aeta Village of Mabato (Php14,200) and to cover the cost of piano lessons for Jade for 10 sessions (Php3,500) beginning on Saturday, August 1, 2009 (Message no. 2308, July 31, 2009).
Goat Dispersal Project for Aeta Families
Discussions are currently under way between ALLDP project coordinator, Evelyn Jones, and Pastor Ladringan about the possibility of starting a goat dispersal project for Aeta families. The proposed goat dispersal is within scope of ZC mission program under the Aeta livelihood project. According to Pastor Ladringan, a young goat costs Php 1500, or Php 3000 for a young female and male goats. Matured goats cost approximately Php 2500 each (Message no. 1488, June 30, 2009).
Evelyn Jones started the goat dispersal project for Aeta families with her donation in the amount of Php5,274.50 which she sent to Pastor Ladringan through LBC courier on July 8th, along with John Reyes' $600 donation for Aeta scholastic sponsorship which she received on July 6, 2009 (Message no. 1633, July 6, 2009).
Pastor Ladringan reported having found an Aeta couple named, Pedro and Marites Arena from the Aeta village of Mabata of Barangay Paete, San Narciso, to be the first recipient of the ZC Goat Dispersal Project for Aeta Families (Message no. 1646, July 7, 2009). Pedro and Marites eventually received 3 goats - male, female, and a female baby goat (Message no. 1884, July 15, 2009).
The second Aeta couple to be the recipient of Evelyn's donation to the goat dispersal project are Doming and Cristina, also from Mabato. Pastor Ladringan was able to bargain the cost of the pair of goats given to Pedro and Marites for Php3500, leaving a balance of Php1774.50 from the original donation amount of Php5274.50. The remaining amount, according to Pastor Ladringan, will be used to purchase a female goat for Doming and Cristina, who are both blind (Message no. 1805, July 12, 2009). Doming and Cristina eventually received 1 female goat (Message no. 1884, July 15, 2009)
In a July 7 message addressed to Pastor Ladringan, Edmo Cayaban pledged Php5,000 towards the purchase of a mother and a father goat under the ZC goat dispersal project for Aeta families (Message no. 1657).
In thanking Edmo's P5K pledge for the purchase of goats, Pastor Ladringan noted Edmo's mention of hens laying eggs, stating they are another "splendid, bright idea" for inclusion in the ZC project for Aeta livelihood. Pastor Ladringan added that it is better to purchase native hens, rather than the imported commercial ones as native hens do not require commercial feeds which are expensive, anyway (Message no. 1664, July 7, 2009).
From Evelyn Jones, the amount of Php 950.00 sent through Josie Cadorna for the goat and chicken dispersal program of the ZC for the Aetas at Sitio Mabato, Barangay Paete, San Narciso, Zambales (message no 2653, August 18, 2009).
Chicken Dispersal Project for Aeta Families
The idea for the chicken dispersal project may have stemmed from Edmo Cayaban's mention of "extra loose change" from his kitty for "hens for laying eggs" (Message no. 1657, July 7, 2009). Pastor Ladringan picked up on the idea, saying, "It is another splendid, bright idea for another ZC livelihood program for the Aetas." Pastor Ladringan added that it is better to purchase native hens than the commercial, imported ones as native hens do not require commercial feeds and are self-supporting animals.
In response to John Reyes' inquiry, a pair of mature hen and rooster, according to Pastor Ladringan, costs P200 (Message no. 1737, July 10, 2009). Evelyn Jones officialized the hen dispersal project by informing Pastor Ladringan that Josie Cadorna is preparing to deliver Evelyn's P950 to Pastor Ladringan for native hens as soon as she (Josie) is well enough to make the delivery (Message no. 1742, July 10, 2009).
An official acknowledgment of receipt of Evelyn Jones' donation in the amount of P4,770 ($100) dated July 17, 2009, was posted to ZC by ACH Treasurer, Frida Liban, and attested by Pastor Ladringan. The donation is intended to buy medicines ($75) and native chickens ($25) as part of the ZC project for Aeta livelihood under the chicken dispersal program (Message no. 1999, July 19, 2009).
The first Aetas who were recipients of the ZC chicken dispersal project were Pastor Pedro, Doming, and 2 other Aeta families in the village of Mabato. Pastor Pedro was able to buy 4 hens and one rooster as their chicken livelihood project. One hen he bought has 8 chicks and one hen has 5 eggs. The other two were younger hens. He bought one rooster. The hen with 8 chicks will be taken care by Pastor Pedro, the hen with 5 eggs will be taken care by Doming, and the other 2 hens were given to 2 Aeta families in the village of Mabato. Pastor Pedro has still some money left and perhaps be able to buy 2 more hens. Pastor Ladringan will give these to another Aeta families in the village (Message no. 2131, July 24, 2009).
Water Pump for the Aeta Village of Mabato
The first mention of wells in Aeta villages was made in passing by Edmo Cayaban in his message to Pastor Ladringan on July 10, 2009, while he was discussing chicken dispersals (Message no. 1744). It turned out that the Aetas in the village of Mabato, in Paite, San Narciso, were praying for just a well in their village for their safe drinking water, as many Aetas were getting sick with malaria and amoebiasis from drinking water from springs in the mountain which are breeding places for mosquitoes, according to Pastor Ladringan (Message no. 1804, July 12, 2009).
The Aetas need for a well as a source of safe drinking water in the village of Mabato, instead of them going to the mosquito-infested spring on top of the mountain, was followed up by Evelyn Jones in a series of email exchanges with Pastor Ladringan, culminating in the latter's message that he (Pastor Ladringan) had contacted a person who can drill a water pump for the village at a cost of Php14,000+ ($290+), parts and labor (Message no.
Due to an oversight, Pastor Ladringan forgot to include the water pump itself in the list of materials needed for drilling the water pump in Mabato. The Pastor recommended a jetmatic water pump which costs Php 2300, or $50 (Message no. 2348, July 31, 2009).
Evelyn Jones promptly sent another $100 to Pastor Ladringan the following day to pay for the water pump, while the additional $50 was to be used for to pay for miscellaneous expenses and medicine, if possible (Message no. 2383, August 1, 2009).
Thru the Philippine National Bank in Olongapo, Edmo Cayaban sent to Pastor Ladringan an amount of Php 5,975.00, to complement the funds for completing the drilling of water wells which comprise of solar electric pumps in tandem (Message no. 2421, August 4, 2009). On Friday, August 7, at about 2 pm, the PNB courier came and delivered Edmo's gift to the water pump project (Message no. 2472).
In message no. 3027, September 8, 2009, Pastor Wilson Ladringan acknowledged receipt from the Zambales Century through Evelyn Jones and Edmo Cayaban the following funds for the water pump project at sitio Mabato, Paite, San Narciso, Zambales: $760.00 sent by Evelyn Jones, and Php 6,062.50 sent by Edmo Cayaban.
This $760.00 includes $200.00 sent to Evelyn Jones by John Reyes to defray the total cost of the water project as indicated in John's message no. 2950, dated September 3, 2009 and Evelyn Jones' acknowledgment of September 11, 2009, message no. 3054.
For the blessing ceremony of the water pump and Pastor Ladringan's medical mission for the benefit of the Aeta villagers in Mabato, Evelyn Jones has pledged to send Pastor Ladringan $100 (Message no. 3175, September 16, 2009).
Dedication and Blessing Ceremony for the Mabato Water Pump, 9/21/009
The following message received from Pastor Ladringan describes the dedication and blessing ceremony of the Mabato water pump held in the Aeta Village of Mabato on September 21, 2009, and the festivities and the medical mission that followed it (Message no. 3353, September 21, 2009).
"The dedication and blessing ceremony for the newly installed water pump at Mabato went on smoothly. All the ACH children and staff, including our Aeta and non-Aeta pastors, were present and joined the momentous event. Josie and her group also joined us. Mrs. Sylvia Espritu and her dentist son Ferdinand were present in the occasion. The barangay captain of Paite and the chieftain of Mabato came in late, but they were there and shared our joy and thanksgiving. The ceremony was done as follows:
Donations
*Evelyn Jones transmitted $200 to Pastor Ladringan via the Western Union, instead of $160, on May 27, 2009.
On May 28, 2009, Pastor Ladringan acknowledged receipt of $200 received from Evelyn Jones “designated as support for Rona Mae Quintero and Leo Jordan Antonio for their needs in the ACH and in the Christian School for the months June 1, 2009 to August 15, 2009 (Message no. 542).
In response to Pastor Ladringan's emotionaly-moving Mid-Year Report (Message no. 784, dated June 8, 2009), Evelyn Jones sent another $100 to Pastor Ladringan via the Western Union on June 9th to “augment some needs in the Home”. The ACH through Pastor Ladringan acknowledged the receipt of Evelyn Jones' donation on June 15, 2009 (Message no. 1029).
Edmo Cayaban, likewise, in response to Pastor Ladringan's report, pledged PHP 4,000 on June 9th to be delivered to the ACH from the Philippine National Bank in Olongapo (Message no. 839). This pledge has not yet been confirmed by an official acknowledgment from the ACH. On July 1, 2009, Pastor Ladringan acknowledged receipt of Edmo's "love gift" to ACH staff in the amount of Php 4785.00, delivered by a PNB courier. Pastor Ladringan divided and distributed the gift to 12 ACH staff, with each one receiving Php 400 (Message no. 1507).
John Reyes made a donation of $600 to the ACH for the current school year's scholastic sponsorship of two Aeta children under Pastor Ladringan's ministry's care. The two children are Rona Mae Quintero and Leo Jordan Antonio. Prior to this donation, ZC's sponsorship to these two children was paid up to August 15, 2009 (Message no. 1458, dated June 29, 2009). With the $600 donation, Rona's and Leo's school and physical needs are provided for up to March 30, 2010, according to Pastor Ladringan (Message no. 1473, June 30, 2009).
In Message no. 1463, dated June 29, 2009, Edmo Cayaban stated, "today, thru the Philippine National Bank of Olongapo, finally, sent Php 4,000 plus some loose change to ACH intended for Houseparent or staff worker. They shall deliver in cash."
Evelyn Jones sent her donation of Php5,274.50 to Pastor Ladringan through LBC courier on July 8, 2009, as the first donation to the ZC Goat Dispersal Project for Aeta Families and John's $600 donation for Rona Mae's and Leo Jordan's ACH scholastic sponsorship through the Western Union also on July 8, 2009 (Message no. 1669).
Pastor Ladringan acknowledged receipt of Evelyn Jones' Php5,274.50 gift to be used to purchase a male and a female goat under the goat dispersal program to help provide for the livelihood of Aeta couple, Pedro and Marites Arena (Message no. 1704, July 9, 2009).
In his Message no. 1884, dated July 15, 2009, Pastor Ladringan reported having purchase 4 goats, instead of 2 as previously reported above - 1 male goat, 2 females, and 1 kid - out of Evelyn's Php5,274.50 donation. Three goats - male, female, and female baby goat - were given to Pedro and Marites Arena, and 1 goat to Doming and Cristina, both blind.
An official acknowledgement of receipt of John's $600 donation to ACH for scholastic sponsorship of Leo Jordan Antonio and Rona Mae Quintero, and Evelyn's donation of P5,274.50 donation for the ZC goat dispersal project for Aeta families was posted through ZC by ACH Treasurer, Frida Liban and attested by Pastor Ladringan (Message no. 1803, July 12, 2009).
2383, Auugst 1, 2009).
2472, August 7, 2009).
On August 18, 2009 Pastor Ladringan acknowledged receipt of the following donations:
From Dr. Edwin Elgincolin, 3 big boxes of used clothes; and 2 medium boxes of medicines for cough, cold, fever, and pain.
From Evelyn Jones, the amount of Php 950.00 sent through Josie Cadorna for the goat and chicken dispersal program of the ZC for the Aetas at Sitio Mabato, Barangay Paete, San Narciso, Zambales (message no 2653, August 18, 2009).
Surprise Visit
At the urging of ZC ALLDP project coordinator, Evelyn Jones, Josie Cadorna paid an unannounced courtesy call to the Aeta Children's Home on a rainy day on June 11th and met with Pastor Ladringan (Message no. 922). Josie and her niece and took many pictures of ACH, its classrooms, library, and the surrounding areas (Message nos. 1049-1058, dated June 16, 2009). John Reyes referred to Josie Cadorna's visit with Pastor Ladringan an act of "humanizing" ZC relationship with ACH (Message no. 924, dated June 11, 2009).
5. Computer Donation Program – Khalil (Willy) Calinawan and Jocelyn Melendez (IT adviser)
The idea for the computer donation program originated from a private email sent by Tay Jobo to John Reyes. On June 7, 2009, John Reyes concurred with the idea and officially announce to the group that it would be ZC's 5th mission program (Message no. 741). The announcement for the computer donation program instantly drew such a tremendous and enthusiastic response from the membership never before experienced with the other 4 mission programs. Plenty of excellent ideas were tossed around and soon a unified plan of action emerged from the discussions.
Because of the outpouring of member support for this program , John Reyes wasted no time and immediately nominated Khalil (Willy) Calinawan of Pasig to be the overall project coordinator for the program, eschewing previous mindset of having a project coordinator to be based in the United States.
Khalil Calinawan's contact numbers are: landline - 641-1099; Smart - 0919 355 6674; Sun - 0922 759 5132.
The rationale behind such an arrangement stemmed from lessons learned from recent events that demonstrated clearly the necessity for having the project coordinator based locally to be able to provide immediate assistance to the local field representative in the event of system failure (Message no. 766, June 8, 2009).
On June 9th, John Reyes asked Jaileen Jimeno of Quezon City to partner with Khalil Calinawan to complete a computer team that he would call a formidable combination, matched only by the fail-safe Aeta assistance team made up of Evelyn Jones and Pastor Ladringan .(Message no. 805).
Jaileen gladly accepted on the same day (Message no. 809). Jocelyn Melendez of Texas joined the computer team as IT adviser upon John's urging (Message no. 895, dated June 11, 2009). Jocelyn Melendez' contact number is 210-279-0337.
Pledges
The first pledge for the computer donation program was made by John Reyes on June 9, 2009 in the amount of $500 to be paid on or about September 1, 2009 (Message no. 786). Evelyn Jones followed suit, pledging $50, also on the same day (Message no. 787). The following day, June 10th, Ceres Busa pledged $50 (Message no. 863). Likewise, Jocelyn Melendez made a pledge for the computer program for an amount yet undetermined (Message no. 885, June 10, 2009).
Jocelyn Melendez updated her pledge on June 13, saying her pledge of $50 will be in the mail on Monday, June 15, 2009 (Message no. 996).
On July 19, 2009, Jocelyn Melendez pledged another $50 for the computer program to be paid before the implementation date of September 1, 2009 (Message no. 2009, July 19, 2009).
Josie Cadorna Factor
On June 11, 2009, Josie Cadorna of Castillejos reported having met with the principal of Magsaysay Elementary School, Mr. Mario Celis, relative to the ZC computer donation program (Message no. 909). Magsaysay Elementary School is located in Barangay Magsaysay in Castillejos, Josie's hometown. As a result of her visit to the school, Josie was able to provide information to ZC about the issues raised by computer team member, Jaileen Jimeno, regarding the school's specific needs for computers and the ICT literacy of the teaching staff to support this need. Josie also learned that the school will not have to pay for the monthly subscription for internet access because of the presence of a user nearby, a cousin of Mr. Celis whose house is located just in front of the gate of the elementary school.
For the above reasons and the fact that Josie Cadorna has a close professional relationship with the principal that would place her in an advantageous position to monitor the computer program for ZC, John Reyes recommended to the computer team to seriously consider the Magsaysay Elementary School to be the prototype recipient for the ZC computer donation program (Message no. 918, dated June 11, 2009).
On June 16th, Josie Cadorna sent pictures of the school, and of Mr. Celis and of Mrs. Dial taken during an earlier meeting with said individuals (Message no. 1048).
Upon learning of the existence of Scanjet computer shop and internet cafe's location near the school, John Reyes asked Josie Cadorna if she could obtain from owner Mr. James Gamulo - a resident of Barangay Magsaysay and an alumnus of the school - a price quote for a computer project best suited for an elementary school. On June 16th, Josie reported the availability of used and new computers with specifications for each. The price for a slightly used 6-month old computer with a one-year warranty is PHP10,000, or ca. $206. The brand new package costs PHP23,000, or ca. $473 with a year warranty (Message no. 1042, dated June 16, 2009). The computer specifications for both packages were referred to the computer team's IT adviser, Jocelyn Melendez, who advised they were specifications appropriate for an elementary school. (Message no. 1070, dated June 16, 2009).
In a series of email exchanges among John Reyes in Delaware, Josie Cadorna in Castillejos, and Jocelyn Melendez, ZC's computer expert in Texas, it was decided that ZC will purchase two brand new computers, not from Scanjet whose owner, James Gamulo, appeared disinterested in selling the computers to ZC, but from Dataworx in Olongapo. A comparison analysis of the computer specifications and prices from three computer shops - Scanjet of Castillejos, Dataworx of Olongapo, and FranzLhei of San Antonio - was made by Jocelyn Melendez, who ultimately decided that Dataworx offered the best deal. The projected price tag for two brand new computers to be donated to Magsaysay Elementary School on September 1, 2009 was $1,044 ($522 per unit) plus antivirus, if not included in the package (Message no. 2062, July 21, 2009).
Dataworx presented a scanned final price quote via Josie Cadorna for one computer unit at a ccost of Php20,298 ($415.57) for one computer unit (Message no. 2927, September 2, 2009).
Legitimizing ZC Donation to Magsaysay Elementary School
Through a private email dated June 18, 2009, sent to John Reyes by Magsaysay Elementary School teacher Mylene Inocente, principal Mario Celis communicated to ZC the school's pressing need for computers in order to be "globally competitive" and "to ease the burdens in teaching and making reports." Mr. Celis hoped that the Zambales Century could donate 4 units of computer to the school. On the same day, John Reyes forwarded Mr. Celis' message to the group, saying that to hear Mr. Celis request for computers is to legitimize the ZC mission program dedicated to his school as the prototype recipient (Message no. 1129).
By private email dated July 26, 2009, addressed to John Reyes, Mr. Mario Celis, the principal of Magsaysay Elementary School gratefully acknowledged Zambales Century's gift laptop delivered to the school by computer project coordinator, Khalil Calinawan, on July 3, 2009, saying that the laptop is useful for preparing reports by the teaching staff. In the same letter, Mr. Celis expressed the school's desire to receive 2 brand new computers, instead of 4 used ones, to complete the Zambales Century's mission program dedicated to the school. He also suggested that the two brand new desktops be purchased from Dataworx in Olongapo (Message no. 2163, July 26, 2009).
Donations to the Computer Program
In order to move up the date for the implementation of the computer donation program for Magsaysay Elementary School, John Reyes agreed to buy Tay Jobo's 2006 HP laptop for $300 as an immediate donation to the computer program. Khalil Calinawan and/or Jaileen Jimeno will pick up the laptop from Tay Jobo's daughter in Paranaque and deliver it to the elementary school in Castillejos as the first computer donation to the school and as a signal of ZC's future intent for computer assistance to the school. The money to be used for the purchase of the laptop will be deducted from the original computer pledge of $500 made by John Reyes, leaving a standing balance of $350. Tay Jobo will use the money to donate 6 piglets to the piglets program (Message no. 1038, dated June 15, 2009).
John Reyes sent a personal check for $300 in payment of Tay Jobo's HP laptop that was donated to Magsaysay Elementary School by Khalil Calilnawan as Part I of the computer donation program to MES on July 3, 2009, in behalf of Zambales Century (Message no. 2078, July 22, 2009)
In Message no. 1094, dated June 17, 2009, Khalil Calinawan reported having successfully contacted Bimbo Reyes, Tay Jobo's son-in-law, who lives in Paranaque for the purpose of handing over the HP laptop to Khalil for onward delivery to the Magsaysay Elementary School at a later date. The meeting between Khalil and Bimbo was set for Sunday, June 21st, and it would be held at the Green Valley Country Club located in Pasig. John Reyes had asked Tay Jobo to instruct Bimbo to also hand over to Khalil the appropriate stipend in the amount of $30 to cover Khalil's trip expenses to and from Castillejos.
On June 22, 2009, Khalil Calinawan acquired the $300 HP laptop from Tay Jobo's daughter, Marinela, and Bimbo Reyes during a meeting at a Pasig McDonald. Khalil stated that he will meet with Josie Cadorna in Castillejos to deliver the laptop to principal, Mr. Mario Celis, of Magsaysay Elementary School in Castillejos on June 30, 2009, and will also meet with Scanjet computer shop owner, Mr. James Gamulo, to look at the computer units scheduled for installation at Magsaysay ES on or about September 1, 2009 (Message no. 1214).
Due to unavoidable circumstances, Khalil Calinawan, had to postpone the planned June 30 visit to Magsaysay Elementary School for the purpose of handing over the gift $300 HP laptop to principal Mr. Mario Celis. Khalil has rescheduled the visit for Friday, July 3, 2009 (Message no. 1505, dated July 1, 2009).
Khalil Calinawan successfuly delivered the laptop to Maysaysay Elementary School on July 3, 2009 in care of principal, Mario Celis. Khalil was driven to Castillejos, and back to Manila, by fellow Mason, Yunus "Edwin" Elgincolin, a medical doctor by profession, who will soon to be a member of ZC. At the school , they were met by ZC field representative Josie Cadorna and members of the school's teaching staff (Message no. 1573).
On June 17, John Reyes received Cere Busa's check for $50 to be applied to the computer program (Message no. 1075).
On June 22, 2009, John Reyes acknowledged the receipt of $50 from Jocelyn Melendez for the computer program (Message no. 1241). On July 19, 2009, Jocelyn Melendez pledged another $50 for the computer program to be paid before the implementation date of September 1, 2009 (Message no. 2009, July 19, 2009).
John Reyes acknowledged Jocelyn's second donation of $60 for the computer program, not $50 as originally pledged, to make Jocelyn's contribution to the computer program a total of $110 (Message no. 3037, Sept. 9, 2009).
On the same day, June 22nd, Evelyn Jones reported having sent her $50 donation intended for the computer program (Message no. 1246). Evelyn's money order for $50 was received by John Reyes on June 25, 2009.
On September 7, 2009 Josie Cadorna acknowledged receipt of $999.50 from Western Union in 0longapo City. $1.50 was deducted as documentary stamps indicated in the receipt. This represents the $1,000 sent her by John Reyes on September 2, 2009 through the Western Union for the purchase of two brand new compr desktops for Magsaysay Elementary School, and makes official the contributions to the computer program by the following ZC members: Ceres Busa = $50, Evelyn Jones = $50, Jocelyn Melendez = $110, and John Reyes = $790 (Message 3035, September 9, 2009).
6. Zambales Century Village Store (Cabangan) - Rosemary Bada San Juan, proprietor. Cell phone no. 09082148125. Ana Marie Daep of Quezon City/Cabangan, adviser.
The mission of the store is to help the poor.
The ZC Village store will be registered in the name of Rosemary Bada San Juan, a ZC member from Barangay Sta. Rita, Cabangan, as the sole owner, with full financial backing of the Zambales Century. It will be managed and operated by Rosemary and by Rosemary's husband when Rosemary is away at work at her government job with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Iba, Monday through Friday, friom 8am to 5pm.
Rosemary is offered the option of rent-to-own the stall for P35,000 ($730) by stall owner, Desnie Yap (Message no. 2067, July 21, 2009). On Saturday, July 25th, 2009, Rosemary will begin cleaning the stall located at the Cabangan Public Market.
Rosemary is volunteering her services to the store for free. Mr. San Juan, who will be tending the store when Rosemary is at work, will be paid Php2000, or $40 per month.
Initially, the store will be selling pig feeds at prices affordable to ZC piglets recipients, other pig farmers, and the common people in general. It will be open 7 days a week, from 6am to 6pm.
Rosemary suggested that the amount of $300 to start the store, scheduled for full implementation on October 8, 2009, was adequate. She was sent $340 on July 14th (Message no. 1851) and another $200 (Message no. 2079) on July 22, 2009, both donations by John Reyes.
Amidst inclement weather, Ana Marie Daep departed Quezon City for Cabangan on Friday July 17, 2009 to visit her mother as well as Rosemary (Message no. 1964, July 17, 2009). While in Cabangan for the weekend, Ana Marie and Rosemary visited the stall site for the ZC Village Store at the Cabangan Public Market and made plans for the opening. Ana Marie gave Rosemary her moral support (Message no. 2029, July 20, 2009).
Monthly rent for the stall is P1200. Three months' advance rent in the amount of P3600 ($75) was paid to the owner of the stall, Desnie Yap of Iba, by Rosemary Bada San Juan on July 22, 2009 (Message no. 2096, July 23, 2009).
Rosemary and family cleaned the stall premises on July 18, 2009. On July 27, Rosemary filed for a month's leave from her government job at the DAR to devote her time completing the paperwork requirements related to the store for the Mayor's signature on July 28, after which she will begin stocking the store's inventory in preparation for the grand opening on October 8, 2009. Rosemary is requesting locally-based ZC members that if they have items, goods, and products the

Pre-Opening of the ZC Village Store
Rosemary decided to pre-open the store on Saturday, August 8, 2009, with full implementation re-scheduled for October 8, 2009 (Message no. 2254, July 29, 2009). Total sales on the pre-opening day was Php 394.00, despite inclement weather.
Balikbayan Shipments for the ZC Village Store
John Reyes suggested that if member donors may have personal issues about sending cash donations to Rosemary for the ZC store, they may wish to consider sending balikbayan shipments containing canned goods like corned beef, spam, coffee, creamer, and any other items such us unused clothings and footwear to add to the store's inventory (Message no. 2192, July 27, 2009).
Zambales Century T-Shirts, ZC Logo, Signage for the ZC Store, and Inang Zambales
Robert Allana, 09192955892, a T-shirt maker based in Zambales, was brought in to ZC from ZF2 by Ed Garcia for discussions about the possibility of providing Zambales Century T-shirts to be designed by him and be made available for sale at the ZC Village Store by the store's grand opening on October 1, 2009.(Message no. 2035, July 20, 2009). A ZC order of about 250 customized T-shirts designed by Robert Allana is a probability.
Robert Allana provided the first two logo/shirt mock up of ZC tennis shirt in maroon with a white logo (Message no. 2183, July 27, 2009).
A final mock-up of the ZC cotton tennis shirt in maroon with a breast logo and ZC's internet address and official motto printed on the back was provided by Robert Allana. The logo design is a white circle with "ZC" transposed on a map of Zambales inside the circle and the words "Zambales Century Village Store" printed around the circle. The price quoted for each shirt was Php185. With a projected order of 250 shirts, total price of the order would be Php 46,250 or $964 (Message no. 2280, July 30, 2009).
The final mock-up looks fine with John Reyes, but he believes that with this kind of figure a drastic reduction of the projected order is a certainty. He has learned about another shirt company based in Hawaii that may wish to submit a competing offer (Message no. 2288, July 30, 2009)
Ana Marie Daep is working with an artist to design the store's signage for tarpaulin printing later which will include an image of Inang Zambales, the powerful image of a proud Ilocana and child found on the home pages of the ZC discussion forum and ZC website (Message no. 2121, July 23, 2009).
John Reyes suggested that the artist working with Ana be asked to design the official ZC logo as well (Message no. 2122, July 23, 2009).
Cerana Farms Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO)-based Products
Ric Mactal, a mechanical engineer and coconut and apiary advocate, heads a Marinduque-based company that markets skin products made of virgin coconut oil and apiary under the brand name Cerana Farms, formerly known as Heavens Cure. He was invited to join the Zambales Century Group by John Reyes on September 12, 2009, with the hope that he would consider placing Cerana Farms products to be sold at the ZC Village Store (Message no. 3076, September 12, 2009).
Donations to the Zambales Century Village Store
John Reyes made the first donation to start the ZC Village Store by sending $340 on July 14, 2009 via the Western Union to Rosemary San Juan, the ZC field representative designated to own, manage, and operate the store. The money is to be used to pay for the business permit, the first month's rent, and the initial inventory. It also included Mr. San Juan's pay for one month in the amount of $40 for tending the store when Rosemary returns to her government job after spending a month of her vacation time at the store in order to determine what the custormers needed (Message no. 1851, July 14, 2009).
John Reyes made a second donation to the ZC Village Store by sending $200 to Rosemary San Juan to cover the stall rental in advance for the next 3 months in the amount of P3,600 ($75) and additional funds to stock the store's initial inventory. To date, a grand total of $540 had been sent to Rosemary for the store (Message no. 2079, July 22, 2009).
Rosemary acknowledged receipt of $200 in additional funds for the store in the peso rate of P47.67 with a total amount of P9,529.79. On Saturday, July 24th, 2009, she will get her Barangay and police clearances in support of the requirements for obtaining the business and mayor's permit to operate the store (Message no. 2096, July 23, 2009).
On July 20, 2009, Evelyn Jones pledged $50 for the ZC Village Store to be paid in the middle of August (Message no. 2037). John Reyes acknowledged receipt of this donation for the ZC Village Store in Message no. 3036, September, 9, 2009, and will send it to Rosemary along with other contributions he will have received, including his, on or about October 1st for the store's grand opening on October 8, 2009.
In Message no. 3045, dated Sept. 9, 2009, Evelyn Jones notified Rosemary San Juan that a donation in the amount of $110 is ready to be picked up from the Western Union. This gift is to be used for the electrical installation at the ZC Village Store. Rosemary San Juan acknowledged the receipt of this donation in message no. 3272, dated September 19, 2009.

Date of implementation of this program is November 1, 2009.
Sebastian, an agro-forestry expert based in Zambales has long been involved in reforesting the denuded mountains of Zambales. His credentials in forestry are recognized by DENR, and has performed contractual work for them. He joined the Zambales Century Group on August 15, 2009 upon the invitation of John Reyes, and agreed to be the Zambales Century's consultant on a pro bono basis in the ZC Reforestation Program. Sebastian declines to be paid for his consultancy services to the Zambales Century.
To sustain the ZC Reforestation Program for years to come, ZC needs to keep the two hired workers on the mountain when their MOA with Sebastian expires at the end of October. ZC's commitment is to retain these two field hands beginning November 1, 2009 to plant forest trees, cash crops, and fruit-bearing trees for Zambales Century on a ZC patch on Mt. Carampoan. The two field hands will be paid a monthly salary of $240 per month, or $120 each per month.

Created by Tay Jobo, the ZC website was launched on May 29, 2009. It houses its main occupant and main feature, the History of Zambales Century. The current Edition 1 was completed on June 1, 2009.
The history is a permanent record of ZC's life. It contains a chronological record of ZC's significant activities and accomplishments summarized from members' posted messages in the ZC discussion forum from its birth on April 20, 2009 to the present time. It is updated regularly.
As a reference tool, the history contains useful information such as records of donations, names of donors, important dates, and contact numbers of key members.
Present and incoming members are referred to the history for orientation purposes and as their introduction to ZC. As members come and go in the coming years, and as institutional memories fade away, the History of Zambales Century will remain the only constant and the sole link to its past.
The ZC website is accessible at http://zambalescentury.com/
